SKAGWAY, AK -- The drive from Whitehorse to Skagway took us through surreal landscapes of white. There was heavy snowfall along this road within the past few days, and there were spots where the only color was the gray pavement unwinding ahead of us through huge white dunes.
Shortly after we crossed the border back into the US, we saw a couple of "share the road" signs, though we did not see any cyclists braving the chill winds. Once we get our bikes out of the car, we plan to attempt the 14-mile climb from town to the top of White Pass, near where this photo was shot.
A few miles past this sign, the road descended and we were soon out of the snow and into Skagway, where there is no snow on the ground. It is now raining, a common enough condition here.
We've unpacked the car, except for the bikes, and moved into our cabin, which is about the size of a single hotel room, with a loft upstairs for storing stuff, and a basic kitchen with a microwave. Prince Charming bought a coffeemaker in Whitehorse, so he feels completely at home.
