ORMOND BEACH, FL -- Sunday morning the bait truck arrived at the bait shop while I was trolling for photographs. The driver thoughtfully left a lid open while he went inside.
And so my snowy egret pal Double Knee-kill, left, and a nameless bully of a great egret, right, quickly moved into position. Below them is a teeming tank of live shrimp.
The bigger bird intimidated Double from diving into the tank.
A few minutes later, the driver returned to his vehicle, and both birds hopped to the ground. Before he left, the nice driver tossed a few shrimp Double's way. Fair is fair.
