No more relaxing by the river for a while
DILLON, SC -- We are on our way again, setting out on a five-month adventure that will take us, well, wherever we wind up.
First the first time since I left my career job in 2005, we do not have summer jobs. Instead, we will spend our time on the move. First two stops, old stomping grounds in North Carolina (me) and New York (Prince Charming.)
The Prince is hankering for a ramble through New England, where we haven't been since 2009. And I can no longer imagine a summer that doesn't include a few days each in several western National Parks -- Glacier, Zion, Bryce, Yosemite.
We also have an annual pass to Canadian National Parks, which is pricey. We got our money's worth out of it last year with about three weeks in Alberta and British Columbia. It's good until the end of August, so we hope to put it to use in Banff and Jasper again before then.
For tonight we're in Dillon, best known in my youth as a place young North Carolinians went to get married, since the age and parental consent requirements just across the border were more favorable to the young and in love.
We got a later-than-usual start on this familiar drive up I-95, and quit for the day an hour short of our intended destination in the NC Sandhills. Tomorrow there won't be nearly so many miles to drive and that's fine with me.
