YOSEMITE, CA -- We made the long drive home Tuesday through a landscape as smoky as it was on our outbound trip a day earlier.
On the TV news Monday night, we learned that there are machines around Sacramento that monitor air pollution levels. When the machines register 1,000, the pollution is considered "very bad." Monday, some of the machines were registering 2,400, or "very bad" times 2.4. And Tuesday's weather forecast said that with no wind expected for a week or more, the smoke might be around for a while.
Things are a little better back here, but Half Dome at sunset was definitely not himself.
All this smoke, in addition to making breathing uncomfortable, cut down on the photos we took on our trip.
I couldn't resist the one below: A police officer waiting for his partner in Old Sacramento. Unfortunately, this fellow has been secured in such a way that he can't bend over to sample that tasty-looking bit of urban pasture at his feet.
