ORMOND BEACH, FL -- I got up early Sunday and walked down to the river to shoot the sunrise, which was fairly ordinary.
I soon noticed I was not alone in the park. A red-shouldered hawk was sitting high in a treetop. Shortly he flew away, but not far -- he landed in a nearby tree, where he joined a companion. They sat together for a while in too-dark conditions, and then left separately.
On my way home I spotted one of them perched in a nearly leafless sycamore, and by then there was enough light to get a good shot.
