Tricolored heron impersonates an umbrella
HOLLY HILL, FL -- We'd tentatively planned to head south to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge Saturday, but were discouraged by the heavy overcast at 5 a.m., as well as a weather forecast warning of dense early-morning fog.
Last weekend, as a matter of fact, we visited Lake Woodruff on a day that with light low enough to make it a photographic bust.
So we stayed home, where the morning turned out to be perfect. At a park in Holly Hill, about two miles from home, we found a tricolored heron willing to perform for us while he searched out his breakfast.
