 HANKSVILLE, UT -- We have covered some ground since my last entry, so this is a quick catch-up.
 After Yosemite, we spent most of a day at the ghost town of Bodie, CA, which is now a state park and officially described as in "arrested decay."  No one has lived here since the 1930s.
 The next day we drove south to Bishop, CA, and headed east across the White Mountains on a steep and convoluted road.  Looking back, we could see the much higher Sierra Nevada.
 We were on our way to Goldfield, NV, where we spent three days eating and sleeping well and playing with dogs.  As usual, my brother and sister-in-law were the perfect hosts.
 Next we headed for Las Vegas, but only to intersect with I-15 and cross a corner of Arizona on our way to Utah.  We spent three days in Zion National Park and two more in Bryce Canyon NP, both old favorites.  We spent a lot of time in this area two summers ago when we were working at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
 That brings us to Thursday morning, Oct. 4, when we set out across Utah on scenic highway 12, where the aspens have turned to gold
