BRIDGEPORT, TX -- Our best-laid plans took a hit again Saturday when we woke up in Carlisle, AR, to a Weather Channel red blob of tornado warnings overlapping our planned route by miles on either side.
Just over a week ago, we ditched a trip to the Outer Banks because of a tropical storm. Saturday we altered our route because of predicted tornadoes.
We had intended to continue west on I-40 into Oklahoma on Saturday and most likely Albuquerque by Sunday afternoon. But that didn't look like such a good idea anymore, as Oklahoma was covered by the red blob.
It looked like the most reasonable course was south on I-30 toward Dallas. So here we are, in a motel room in a small town northwest of Fort Worth, watching video and bright graphics of the day's dangerous weather in Oklahoma.
We haven't necessarily outrun the bad weather, since the weather folk say things could get rough here later Saturday.
By Sunday night we should be west of tornado alley. Wonder what Mother Nature has in store for us next?
