SKAGWAY, AK -- There is sunshine to be found in these parts, just not in Skagway. On the other side of the mountains the weather is much better. We'd heard this rumor earlier in the week, and confirmed it today when seven employees took a training ride to Carcross, Yukon Territory.
In Carcross, a First Nation (in the U.S. we say Native American) community of 500, it was a lovely day. On the way home, we climbed into a minor snowstorm, and then descended into the familiar gloom again.
Trivia lesson for the day: The name Carcross has nothing to do with automobiles or the trains which used to pass through the area. It's short for Caribou Crossing, the community's original name.
