A quiet weekend in a pink motel

Condo canyon: Our little pink motel

ST. PETERSBURG BEACH, FL -- This makes no sense: We live a mile and a half from a fine beach, yet we keep driving 180 miles to enjoy another one.
The main difference between Ormond Beach and St. Pete Beach is that the sun rises out of the ocean at Ormond and sets into the ocean at St. Pete.
But somehow, the sun seems a bit brighter, the water a bit clearer, the air a bit fresher when we're away from home. Also, our hometown has been enduring Bike Week, a 10-day motorcycle convention of sorts that is crowded and noisy. By Friday night, we had had enough, so Saturday morning we were off to the West Coast for the fourth time this winter.
The campground where we love to stay was booked up as usual, so we found a little motel that is a holdover from the 50s and a holdout to developers who have built high-rises on either side of it.
The weather was perfect, the seafood delicious, the shells plentiful, the birds cooperative (link to pictures at right) and the motorcycles mostly missing.
Maybe next week we'll go take a walk on our own beach.
