| My first picture of a pika |
We were rewarded with a slew of marmots, the cute rodent hams who have very little fear of people and seem to enjoy posing for photographs.
I caught this one in what almost looks like a studio shot. The rock is square enough to appear man-made, and the blue background is Hidden Lake, hundreds of feet below.
The second photo was harder to get. The pika is a tiny animal, weighing 4-12 ounces. He knows he is a tasty snack for almost any carnivore, so he is fast on his feet and rarely stays in one position long enough to be photographed. I was lucky to catch him resting for a moment before he darted away and disappeared among the rocks where he lives.
