Fiddling while Rome burned

Lily Pond, Kancamangus Highway, New Hampshire

 BAR HARBOR, ME -- While Hurricane Matthew pounded Ormond Beach Friday morning, we drove across the Kancamangus Highway between Lincoln and Conway, NH. There was much lovely scenery along the way, but my favorite was this pond with the near-perfect reflection.

 It was nearly dark Friday evening when I managed to connect with our next-door neighbor, who said she could see no damage to our house, although she could not see the back of it well enough to tell.  

 Saturday morning, Rick the handyman finally got a call through, describing a dinner-plate-sized hole in the roof over our bedroom.  He said he could fix it for the moment.  I asked him to check on a couple more things I was worried about, and he promised to do so.  He said if we didn't hear from him again, to assume that all was good.

 It is now Sunday night, and we haven't heard any more from Rick, who is quite a busy man right now, but our neighbor e-mailed that work has been done on the roof and fallen tree limbs were being cleared from the yard. Thank goodness for Rick, who has a whole network of local contractors who can get things done in a hurry.
