View from Lost Mine hike, Big Bend NPTERLINGUA, TX -- Friday morning we left Big Bend National Park and headed for Terlingua, a tiny town just outside the park which, to our surprise, has a coffee-shop with free wi-fi.
Thursday we did our first hike of the summer, the popular Lost Mine trail. We avoided the crowds and the heat by getting on the trail early. Our campsite next-door neighbor, a Pensacola retiree traveling alone, came with us and provided some good company. We swapped stories of good hikes in other locations.
We never found the Lost Mine, but the views were splendid. The square peak on the left in the picture is Casa Grande (Big House) the other side of which we could see from our campsite, which is located in the valley on the right side of the picture.
Later Thursday we drove 30-some miles to take much needed showers and to take a look at the Rio Grande, which we hadn't seen yet. It isn't a very impressive body of water.

We miss you, Lydia. Now that lady has no conversations of mine to butt into. First day of nasty, sweaty humidity here. Something tells me you aren't missing it...
