| Who's afraid of seagulls anyhow? |
GARIBALDI, OR -- For lunch Wednesday we found a restaurant with huge picture-windows overlooking the wonderful blue of Tillamook Bay.
Prince Charming was midway through his razor clams and I was making similar progress with my steamers when a bald eagle flew right past the 40-foot wall of windows.
What a treat! And it got better. Once we finished eating, paid up and walked to the parking lot, the bird flew over again, landing high in an evergreen tree in plain sight. I hurried to the van to grab my camera.
Seagulls, aggressive in protecting their nesting families, had been chasing the eagle, trying to get him to leave the area. Once he landed, they buzzed him over and over, shrieking fear and fury.
The eagle was unruffled. He knows, and the gulls do too, that he can raid whatever seabird nest he wants to and the best any bird can do is hope he picks someone else to eat.
