SKAGWAY, AK -- Our cabin is cleaned out, our car is packed and all that's left to do is wait. Our jobs ended yesterday (Sept. 21), but we couldn't get a ferry out until tonight, so we are in the public library, trying to kill time until we board around 9 p.m.
After a summer of giving tours to cruise-ship passengers, we are taking a two-night cruise of our own on the Alaska Marine Highway. This will be a new adventure for us, and will also save us several days of driving.
There's no Internet access on the ferries, so we'll have to tell you about the next phase of our trip once we're on land again.
To everybody who has written us letters and cards this year, thank you. But don't do it anymore, because our Skagway post office box is now closed.
