CANMORE, AB -- Antelope are common in southern Saskatchewan and Alberta. We saw dozens today as we drove west across the prairies.
Spotting them requires some practice, since their coats are colored to blend in with the grasslands they inhabit.
Sometimes they graze quite close to the road, and they pay no attention to vehicles that keep moving. The four above were poised on the shoulder of the Trans-Canada Highway, waiting to cross safely.
Prince Charming, fearing a season-ending collision, braked when he saw them.
Our slowing car was enough to convince them they didn't want to cross the road after all.
