SEWARD, AK -- We don't know what to make of the
near-perfect days we've enjoyed since we arrived in Alaska.
We've seen more sunshine than we did the whole month
of August last year. Friday we found the weather encouraging enough to undertake a four-hour whale-watching cruise.
The best picture I got all day, however, was this seal, shot before the boat even backed away from the dock.
Farther out in Resurrection Bay, we saw a number of
orcas, including this one who looks like he's swimming with his headlight on, and these two who surfaced
at the same time within range of my lens.
There were also some humpbacks and gray whales, but our captain couldn't get close enough for decent pictures.
