Along the trail in Lundy Canyon
Dinner at the Mobil Station, overlooking Mono LakeLEE VINING, CA -- We are five days away from unemployment.
On our last two days off Monday and Tuesday we did two hikes, one to Spillway Lake in Yosemite and another in Lundy Canyon in the Inyo National Forest. We spent a last night at Murphey's Motel in Lee Vining. We had a last meal at the Mobil Station which serves gourmet meals in fast-food fashion.
Then we made the 80-mile drive back to Yosemite Valley. Who knows whether we will pass this way again?

But we are looking forward to Monday, when we will leave here to spend a few days of R&R on the coast south of San Francisco. After that, we will begin the long drive east.
We have done about 20 hikes during our four months here, and we have enjoyed every one.
But we are starting to get homesick, for early-morning walks by the Halifax River, for grits and seafood and barbecue, for St. Augustine and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
It is going to be good to get home.
