LAVA HOT SPRINGS, ID -- Monday night we were in a chain motel on a strip of chain businesses in a big (by Idaho standards) city.
Tuesday night finds us in a town of 300 with not a single franchise restaurant or hotel in sight. We've walked the length of Main Street twice, crossing the street whenever we felt like it without having to wait for traffic.
We spent some time this afternoon soaking in a hot spring which is the town's main attraction. On a late-September weekday, the hot-pools were all but deserted, although the manager of our motel says she's booked up for the weekend and the town will be packed with people. We're glad we'll be long gone by then.
