Cow elk tends to new calf at Mammoth Hot Springs
OLD FAITHFUL, WY -- We're back at our home base after three days at Mammoth Hot Springs, 50 miles north of here, for training on tours we will be doing in that area.
The highlight of our trip came Wednesday evening, when we watched an elk with a just-born calf across from the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. The cow chased away several curious other cows, as well as an idiotic tourist who tried to approach too closely.
Friday night we arrived here in a snowstorm. It's still coming down hard three hours later, and has accumulated enough to cover the parking lot outside our room.
Saturday is our day off, and we'd hoped to get out of the park for a few hours before returning to work Sunday. The weather may change our plans.
