Wandering past old faithful
Snowplow follies
OLD FAITHFUL, WY -- Saturday we spent more than 12 hours observing a tour given by a senior driver/guide. It was interesting and entertaining and educational and exhausting. And so it was particularly nice to open our room door and find natural light pouring into our room.
Since we arrived here May 10, our window had been boarded up because of the big pile of snow outside it. More snow is melting every day, and so the shutters could come off our window and our neighbors'. Now we have a view of a smaller pile of snow and a muddy parking area. We no longer live in a cave. It's definitely a mood elevator.
The pictures above are just some interesting things I've observed in the past few days between tour-guide classes and road trips. In the top photo, a very young bison calf and its mother wander past Old Faithful. Locals call a calf this size a "red dog" because it's the size of a dog, and it's reddish in color.
The second photo shows the scene outside one end of our dorm. A bike rack and a picnic table were buried in snow, and the snowplow driver didn't know it until he'd mangled the one and smashed the other.
