| Mono Lake and a curtain of rain
LEE VINING, CA -- En route from Goldfield, NV to Yosemite, we stopped for a picnic by Mono Lake, always a favorite.
Monday we got a bonus, a thunder and lightning performance along with our lunch. The sheets of rain visible in the picture never caught up with us, nor did the lightning.
No one seemed to pay the storm much mind. A ranger set out with a group of tourists on a scheduled hike. Others wandered down to the beach. And we sat at a picnic table, holding onto paper plates and napkins that tried to escape with each gust of wind.
It was probably not the smartest thing any of us ever did, but we got away with it.
