The Colorado River takes a major turn. . .
. . .and so did the road we took to get up the hillMOAB, UT -- Thursday the weather improved significantly and we finally made it to Moab.
On the way, we visited Dead Horse Point State Park, which has views easily mistaken for the Grand Canyon. On the way, we nearly met ourselves coming back. In the lower photo, that's the same road, with a major switchback hidden at the lower left.
Once we reached the visitors' center, we decided to walk the rest of the way to Dead Horse Point, about a mile and a half each way.
When we got there, we found the Colorado River quite conspicuously visible as it performs a switchback of its own. From the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, where we spent the summer, we had to drive more than 20 miles to see just a brief stretch of the river.
Prince Charming decided he liked his motel experience in Green River Wednesday night, so he found us similar accommodations for the weekend here. It will be easier to get an early start on the area's sights if we don't have to pack up everything every day.
