NOXON, MT -- The picture sums up our past week in Montana. June is the rainy season, and most folks here are just glad it's raining and not snowing.
We camped Saturday and Sunday nights at Bull River Campground, where this photo was shot. Just beyond the bridge, the Bull River runs into the Clark Fork. Ten miles northwest is the Idaho border.
Saturday was some kind of Forest service holiday, which meant everyone was allowed to camp for free. Sunday night cost $5, so it was a cheap weekend.
We had camped here before, and liked the place. This time I was disappointed not to see the beavers that swam by last summer, or the bald eagle who perched in a tree across the river.
It rained so much Saturday that we got up Sunday and drove to the nearest Walmart (Sandpoint, ID) to buy ourselves a big blue tarp. We put it up when we got back, and didn't have any rain the rest of the day, so it was a good investment.
