 POULSBO, WA -- Our two-week house-sit on the Kitsap Peninsula was finished Aug. 16, but we were left with good memories and a tentative agreement to come back next summer, when the homeowners are going on a longer vacation.

 We sampled several restaurants in the area, and these are two favorites.  The Boat Shed, with its outdoor deck, has great seafood at good prices.  It is in Manette, just across the bridge from Bremerton.  If you have a table under one of the colorful umbrellas, or near the windows if it's raining, you have a view of the destroyer Turner Joy, now a floating museum on the Bremerton waterfront.  You can also see the ferries to Seattle arriving and departing.

 On our last morning, when we had the house all cleaned, we didn't want to eat breakfast there and create more cleanup, so we went into Poulsbo to Tizley's Europub, where you can eat on a narrow balcony overlooking the town's Scandinavian-inspired main street.  Tizley's breads come from Sluy's Bakery, on the right side of this photo.

 The sumptuous goods in Sluy's window are dangerous -- calories have been known to come right through the glass and attack passers-by.

 We also enjoyed Monica's Waterfront Bakery and Cafe in Silverdale, which isn't quite on the waterfront, but close enough.  Also in Silverdale, Aladdin's Palace Mediterranean Restaurant has fine food and an unusually attentive host.

 Curry, an Indian restaurant, and Fraiche Cup, a coffee shop, both near the ferry terminal in Bremerton, were places we'll go back to if we're here again next summer.

 And we won't forget the Wednesday lunches at the Norwegian Brotherhood lodge in Poulsbo, where you get a buffet of Scandinavian-style sandwiches, fish and treats for $10. We weren't always sure what we were eating, but we didn't care, as it was all good.
