Enough rain already!

Roadside lunch in the city of Gaspé

It was like this all day

 SAINT-YVON, QC -- The rain never quit Sunday, it only got worse.  Wind too. We checked out of our comfy, and pricey, motel in Percé about 10 a.m. and set out to continue our tour of the Gaspé Peninsula.

 The trip we wanted to take to a nearby island bird sanctuary will have to wait until next time.  The weather was so bad Sunday that the boats weren't even running.

 We were hoping it would get better, but now it's past 7 p.m. and we're in another motel, watching it rain.  At least this motel, in a tiny town on the north coast of the Gaspé, is much cheaper than last night's.

 In the course of the day we had another memorable meal, in a park in the city of Gaspé, which is one of the largest towns on the peninsula.  We are beginning to learn why there are so many covered picnic tables here.  About two-thirds of this one was dry. The remainder was a victim of frequent spells of nearly horizontal rain.

 We had sandwiches and a pasta salad we'd picked up at a local supermarket.  And we had hot chocolate, cooked on our backpacker's stove.  Even with the hot drinks, we were quite chilled by the time we finished eating.

 This lunch became a turning point of sorts.  We decided to quit waiting for the weather to get better.  We are not short on time, but we are short on patience.   Henceforth, as long as the weather stays bad, we will keep moving.  When the sun comes out, we will surely be able to find something enjoyable to do, wherever we happen to be by then.
