Grand Lake on a cloudy morning

  DANFORTH, ME  --  We started out Wednesday to drive from Bar Harbor to Presque Isle, but we took US 1 rather than I-95.  There were lots of interesting places to see and stop.  We shopped for groceries. Pretty soon we were tired and decided we would stop at Houlton, 43 miles short of Presque Isle.

 And then we got more tired and decided to hunt down the only campground in Danforth, about 80 miles short of our original destination.

 We're really glad we did.  Greenland Cove Campground was three miles down an increasingly troublesome road, but it was perfect.  For $25 we got a site with water and electricity, just steps from hot showers.  There was a pool and a spacious lounge.  The lake was steps away.  Fishing is the main draw here, but it's still quite early in the season at this latitude, and the campground and docks weren't busy

 The campground manager lives in Sarasota.  We've run into so many Floridians in Maine that we wonder who is left back home.
