Motel vs. campground:  A no-brainer

  BAR HARBOR, ME -- When we were here five years ago, we stayed at the campground above for a couple of nights before we saw the light and moved across the street.
 Hard to get both signs readable in the frame, but the campground is advertising sites for $32-44.  To get water and electricity, you will be paying toward the top end of that range.
 Just across the street is a motel, nothing fancy, but completely adequate, for $36.  The taxes bring it to $38 and change, which includes electricity, water, sewer, television and a toilet that can be reached without going outdoors.  Also a bathtub and shower.
 Monday night (June 9) we stayed in a campground in Acadia National Park for the geezer rate of $10.  That broke down to about $1 per thousand mosquitoes.  They loved our campfire.  They loved our citronella candles.  Most of all, they loved us.  Since there were no showers, we were unwilling to dose ourselves with insect repellent, which we both hate.
 Tuesday was cloudy with showers, so we decided to check into this small motel and spend the afternoon in housekeeping chores -- we shopped for groceries and a new citronella candle, and we got haircuts.
