That's my mom!DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST, UT -- There is no water to speak of near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The tiny Jacob Lake, described and pictured in an earlier post, isn't worthy of its name.
So it's good for us to get away to a place where there are some natural bodies of water. One is Duck Creek Pond, hard by a nice campground and teeming with aquatic birds.
A short early morning walk brings us to a spot where we can watch ducks rearing their young. This female appeared to have seven ducklings, although with several families present, it was difficult to say who belonged to whom.
