KANAB, UT -- We've missed Fourth-of-July fireworks in all previous summers we've spent away from Florida. In Alaska, a lack of darkness renders fireworks ineffective, and the other places we've worked, there was too much danger of forest fires.
On the Internet last week I discovered that Kanab would have its fireworks on the evening of July 3, a Saturday which is our "Friday" at work. So we drove here Saturday afternoon to join the fun.
We found the show compared quite favorably with the one we're accustomed to back home in Ormond Beach. A good crowd turned out with lawn chairs and blankets. We joined a group watching from the well-irrigated lawn of the local hospital.
The show started about 10 p.m. It may have been a day early here, but back home, two hours ahead of Utah, it was July 4 already.
