LAS CRUCES, NM (Oct. 19) -- We didn't see a real roadrunner this trip, but this larger-than-life statue was hard to miss. It stands at a rest area high on a hill overlooking the city of Las Cruces.
Internet research revealed that the statue was created in 1992 by artist Olin S. Calk, who crafted it out of junk he salvaged from the city dump. It's 20 feet tall and 42 feet long.
Later in the day, when there wasn't enough light to take a picture, we saw another, smaller, roadrunner statue in Fort Stockton, TX.
